While celebrating the fantastic news that the Indian Under-19 Women’s Team won the T20 World Cup. We are sharing the updates about the Women’s Premier League Player Auction 2023.
Women’s Premier League 2023 is scheduled to begin on March 4, 2023, with 22 T20 Matches, including the Final, to be held at the two stadiums (Brabourne Stadium & D.Y. Patil Stadium) that would serve as hosts for the prestigious tournament.
On February 13, 2023, at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, 409 cricketers were auctioned off as part of the Women’s Premier League Player Auction. The initial Women’s Premier League Player Auction attracted 1525 players in total, but only 409 made the final list.
246 of the 409 players are Indian, while 163 are from other countries, including 8 from associate countries. There are 202 total capped players, 199 total uncapped players, and 8 players from associate countries.
With the five teams, there are a total of 90 places available, 30 of which are designated for international players.
The base price for players has been divided into five categories– from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 50 lakh and 24 players have chosen to be included in the top tier. The few Indians who have qualified for the top bracket are Team India Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, and Shafali Verma, the captain of India’s Under-19 T20 World Cup-winning team.
30 players are on the auction list with a base price of INR 40 Lakh, while 13 overseas players have also placed themselves below the INR 50 Lakh reserve price.
